One of the most common problems I come across is when a customer has attempted to clean their carpet themselves with a shop-bought cleaning product.
Most off-the-shelf products you can buy use hydrogen peroxide as a bleaching agent. In the right hands these can be used effectively to clean and remove stains. However, in the wrong hands it can be disastrous. People unwittingly pour it on, then rub and scrub, but don’t extract or rinse. This means the chemical remains within the carpet and keeps on working long after the event, causing damage to the carpet. Consequently, it’s not the chemical that is the problem – it’s the fact that it’s left sat on the carpet when it should have been removed.
The moral of this tale is to be wary of shop bought carpet cleaning products. If you’re not confident in using them correctly then the safest solution is to contact a professional if you are in any doubt.
